Mower problems are easier to fix when you know where to start
When a mower won’t start, surges or cuts unevenly, it’s rarely obvious whether the cause is the fuel, the ignition, a belt or the deck. Manuals assume you already know the part that’s failing, and forum threads often disagree.
LawnAsk takes the opposite approach. Our guides start from what the mower is doing and work back to the likely causes, so you can check the simple things first and decide whether it’s a job you can do yourself.
Guides for every stage of owning a mower
How we write our guides
Start with the symptom
We organise guides around what the mower is doing, so you can find the right fix without knowing the name of the part.
Explain the cause, not just the fix
Our guides explain why a problem happens, so you can rule out causes one at a time instead of replacing parts at random.
Work safely
Before any repair, switch off the engine, let it cool and disconnect the spark plug wire. If a job involves fuel, blades or wiring and you’re not confident, a qualified mower technician is the safer choice.
Corrections are welcome
If you spot a mistake in a guide, tell us through our contact page. We review correction requests and update guides that need fixing.
